Capstone Project

For my capstone project I've decided to create a scenic Italian road. The view will be looking down a narrow road with a brook adjacent to it. The road will be coming down toward the viewer with an apex aprox half way down the view. I plan to place a small car and a bicycle or two off to the side and some buildings and a small wall into the scene. Scetches/3d placeholder views will soon follow.

  1. Sounds like a good plan of action Justin. Its alot to build though, depending on your timeframe and how much other work you have to do. Another thing you want to consider (and I do this with all my environments too), is what story do you want to tell with this image/environment? Do you want it to be gloomy, or sunny? What just happened there?

  2. Hmm, hadn't really thought of a story to tell with it. I pictured the scene to be taking place very early in the morning probably dawn to get a nice refelection off the water to project on the walls.

As far as having a lot on my plate I figured I'd model simple objects and do most of the work with textures. I know that textures and lighting takes longer than modeling, at least for me.

    I modeled up the car I'm using today. It's a 75 Fiat.

I've also got my schedule planned out for this project. I'm going to spend the first 2-3 weeks modeling the scene, which will probably take just over a week, and then working on textures for the next 4 weeks. Then I would have 2 weeks for lighting and the last week could be spent on just and finalizing.

  3. Just remember to also leave time to do some really good normal maps... hi res transfers if you have too. Especially if you're planning to make this game-res, you're going to have to do some pretty good spec maps on them as well.
