You'll have plenty of time to live in a van down by the river...

WHEN YOU LIVE IN A VAN DOWN BY THE RIVER!
In progress view of a 2005 Ford E350 extended work van. It needs bumpers, axles, and other smaller details yet. And a texture. I'm also thinking about making it hollow to have internal stuff and maybe the ability to open and close the doors? This asset is intended for a small multiplayer Unreal Tournament 3 map.

This ones for you Todd, where ever you might be!

High Poly

Damn you blogger for automatically doublespacing after "High Poly"

244636 Verts

I think I'm getting the hang of turbo smoothing to create high poly models for for creating kickass textures. Now to work on the texture part....

Todd Dinius - This is so that in the event that you google your own name you will find this.

I was not ready for the tank and turbosmoothing yet.

So I decided to try something a little less intimidating. Looked around on my desk and asked myself "Justin, why don't you try something "easy" like a box or die". I thought about a die but that's way to simple. Then I thought "Look at all those details on that bolt! That will be fun!".

I definitly learned a bit about turbo smooth. The Android scene taught me some stuff but nothing was as involved as this. It doesn't look like much but just those curves at the top of the head of the bolt were a head scratcher. Good Times.

Just for the record, I HATE bloggers post creater thing.

I think I might be done with this scene

Partially because I've grown tired of looking at it and partially because max likes to crash right after something cool happens. Oh well. I learned a lot about vray, which is sweet by the way, and using orthographic which I don't think I've used before.

I had a really cool sky relection on them but that's one of the cool things that crashed before I could save it. :(

Playing with turbo smooth is a brain melty good time!

So I've been playing with turbo smooth to familiarize myself with it so I'll be able to do sub d modeling. I came across (he he) a cool 3D scene someone created with the Android robot guy. I thought it was cool enough to play around with so I began modeling. So far this has been an adventure in learning what turbo smooth does and does not like.

The first image is the one I found on the net. The following two are experiments with the background. I haven't messed with the lighting or the reflections for the top but expect an update or two soon.

Low Poly Done

I think...

880 polys
832 verts

2 posts in one day!?!

Just a little progress. The low poly version is coming out pretty nice. Still have to model the scope before the high poly stuff begins. Then we'll have some fun.

611 polys
560 verts

It's been a while

I don't really have a valid reason for the lack of content around here lately. But I have been busy. Learning sub d modeling (thanks Tom!) and am currently working on this rifle model. Thus far it's coming out well but I'm only on the familiar low poly model step right now. We'll see how it turns out in the near future.
