I created this small display area for the car to test reflections and play with textures. The textures are basically photo's manipulated a tad in photoshop and passed through Crazy Bump and tweaked. Not final textures by no means but just a test.
Not sure if I want to create all the textures from scratch or use resources such as cgtextures.com

Textures on the base are looking good. I think at this point in time you should be getting onto mapping the car and getting the diffuse/spec/normal/alpha maps done, especially with all the other assets that you have to make for the environment.
ReplyDeleteThe texture for the car itself could be a combination of photo manip and textures from cgtextures (which is a great resource to get a good start). Plan ahead on what you want the environment to be and adjust your textures to match. For example, if you want it to be a rustic, slighty disheveled area, you might add rust stains and scratches on the car. If its a more bright, light-hearted feel to the scene you might want to make the car a bit cleaner. In any case, keep having fun with it, and keep truckin' cuz you're making good progress!
You've made some previous mockups of the environment, and it'd be a good idea to lock in a composition soon so you can see what you need to get done based on the camera. If you plan on taking a few different angles, remember you have to plan for those too. I'd like to see some finalized compositions soon so you can start to concentrate on which assets you need to get done. Making the assets is half the battle, lighting and atmosphere make up the other half.
